Joseph Gai Ramaka's Carmen, like all Carmens, is about a woman's disruptive sexuality and the social strain and subversion that fuels her larger than life persona. But unlike all other Carmens, Ramaka has Djeïnaba Diop Gaï has his Carmen. She effortlessly exudes brazen sexual promise from her pores and an athleticism that conveys a barely contained insanity. Even though Ramaka's plotting leaves a lot to be desire, you cannot not look at Djeïnaba Diop Gaï. I return time and time to IMDB to look at what else she has done apart from Kamen. Nothing. Karmen Gai is, as befuddling as this may sound,her only listed film.
